Your responsibilities

 

Summary:

The Supplier Quality Engineer ensures the quality of incoming supplier components. This position prevents supplier defects from reaching Bilstein or customer assembly processes. Assists suppliers in the development, control and documentation of new processes. Plans effective receiving inspection activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides release/final approval for PPAP submissions from supplier/SQD.
  • Clearly communicates component issues to the organization by creating investigative reports including concern issue and supporting data and analytics.
  • Support sthe Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) in launch activities (APQP) supplier material and metrology process with more complex launch and/or commodity suppliers and provide feedback to the SQD with reports and data.
  • Reviews drawings prior to release related to a new product development program and/or change management.
  • Supports and assesses the material analysis and measurement activities related to change management.
  • Verifies material characteristics are being met during the approval of suppliers. Continues monitoring material certificates from supplier throughout production.
  • Logs and maintains production lessons learned for future SQD/supplier sourcing activities.
  • Understands specifications and requirements and works with SQD engineer and supplier to aid in understanding of all component requirements.
  • Determines technology and measurement systems needed to support analysis for routine supplied component sampling and root cause analysis testing.
  • Provides measurement support for interface with Bilstein SQD and supplier, specifically with GD&T and proper measuring techniques and standard measuring methods.
  • Accurately transacts movements of suspect/discrepant or quality test material in SAP.
  • Evaluates supplier components located in production that are identified as suspect material.
  • Facilitates the containment of all suspect materials deemed not to meet part specifications.
  • Coordinates with vendors to assist with supplier component sorts to identify any non-conforming parts and establish a “clean point” for production.
  • Communicates with suppliers to identify the root cause of any non-conforming parts or quality issues and verifies the suppliers corrective actions are implemented effectively. This could involve traveling on site to confirm implementation for corrective action is in place.
  • Captures all cost associated with production quality issues for charging back to the supplier.
  • Analyzes and resolves chronic supplier quality problems.
  • Manages problem investigation & countermeasure activities.
  • Identifies and documents key product & process characteristics with SQD.
  • Assures implementation of necessary controls for supplier processes.
  • Supports the assessment the application of quality checks within suppliers’ production processes.
  • Develops and improves internal receiving inspections & tests.
  • Manages problem countermeasures with appropriate problem solving tools.
  • Helps suppliers design and analyze experiments for quality improvement.
  • Conducts occasional quality training internally or at supplier locations.
  • Supports the development of problematic suppliers.
  • Works with external labs to provide analysis of measurement or material characteristics
  • Works with purchasing to identify and maintain qualified 3rd party inspectors and ensures the training to Bilstein Safety and Quality requirements.
  • Documents and report sort activities and results.
  • Reports KPIs for supplier related sort, rework, or repair activities.

Your profile

Qualifications & Experience:

 

  • Proven experience identifying process shortcomings through data analysis and providing recommendations for improvement.  
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgement to develop potential solutions.
  • Experience in designing and implementing Corrective Action in response to process escapes.  
  • Experience working in an engineering discipline within an automotive industry with the familiarity of ISO 9001 or ISO/TS16949 standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, stamping, forging) and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, and equipment.
  • Proven experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SPC, DOE ANOVA, GD&T, f & t-test analysis, GR&R etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical software such as Minitab, Infinity or equivalent systems.  
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective supplier relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and willingness to identify, initiate and drive improvement teams.  
  • Proven track record of customer interface and ability to manage multiple projects and programs in a fast paced environment.  
  • Proven time management, organizational, problem solving and prioritization skills to successfully complete responsibilities in a timely manner.  
  • Highly organized with ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behaviors in all activities; maintains accountability for performance.
