Your responsibilities

Position Overview:

thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions is currently seeking a first shift layout and inspection person in our Milwaukee, WI location.

Our layout and inspection person is responsible for the layout and inspection of heavy section steel weldments. You should be a self-motivated specialist with a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each challenge.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determines manufacturing processes and tools needed in order to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications in a job shop production environment.
  • Maximize efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization.
  • Write and communicate work instructions.
  • Work with engineering and generate engineering changes supported with appropriate documentation.
  • Review instructions, drawings, and other applicable specifications to determine inspec-tion requirements. Prepare and complete inspection summary sheets.
  • Review layout design and resolve undefined details. Utilize notes, sketches, drawings, engineering specifications, and verbal instructions
  • Plan and develop layouts from blueprints and make templates, applying knowledge of trigonometry, weld joints, effects of heat, and properties of metals.
  • Compute layout dimensions, determine and mark reference points on metal stock or work-pieces for further processing, such as welding and assembly.
  • Interface effectively with coworkers in the resolution of production concerns or other issues related to producibility, cost, and schedule.
  • Occasional local travel required for part inspections at vendors.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing (welding) environment.
  • Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must have a working knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Knowledge of fabrication techniques, tools, and principals involved in sub arc and MIG welding steel.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings including geometric tolerances.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Your profile

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SCWI, CWI, or CAWI certification.
  • Journeyman structural fitter.
  • Associate degree in welding technology.
  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods.
