Provides support, leadership and direction to the Engineering Team in the development of standards and specifications as it pertains to new equipment and to Maintenance Technicians on the controls function for the Maintenance Department. Designs, develops, deploys and enhances process control systems and optimization of process equipment for improving quality and capacity.

• Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all Business Unit safety and environmental policies in the workplace.
• Supports engineering in the development of standards and specifications as it is related to controls systems.
• Provides technical support for controls systems during the introduction of new equipment. Assembles and installs new equipment and supervises equipment assembly and installation.
• Ensures proper controls-specific documentation delivery from the Original Equipment Manufacturer(s) and maintains documents (e.g., electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, panel layouts, PLC, operator display, operator interface, robot programs, and machine power distribution) throughout equipment life cycle and documents any changes during that time.
• Plans the updates, modifications, and continuous improvement of existing controls systems including robotic programs, ladder logic programs, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interface, hydraulics, and pneumatics distribution and control.
• Designs and writes advanced electrical controls programs as required.
• Provides technical support to the plant for resolving PLC, weld controls and robotic systems.
• Documents equipment breakdown/activity in electronic database and provides reports as requested. Uses reports to analyze opportunities for improvement.
• Schedules and completes back-ups of all electronic machine control and robotic programs on a set schedule.
• Inspects equipment conditions utilizing established preventative maintenance procedures.
• Plans and leads cross-functional project teams supporting activities related to controls issues.
• Provides leadership and direction to maintenance personnel during equipment downtime situations, and coordinates with the production management team.
• Responsible for the development of training material and the technical training of all Maintenance personnel in the area of controls systems.
• Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. TS16949, ISO14001).
• Works with equipment to reduce downtime and increase efficiencies.
• Assists in troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing production equipment.
• Work with process/product engineering to make necessary changes to equipment for improvements, product changes and new product launches.
• Develops programming and equipment standards for PLC and automated systems.
• Designs new process control systems as needed. This can be driven by new product development for the plant as well as modifications to existing processes.
• Performs system upgrades to keep current with hardware and software that is still supported by the manufacturer or developer.
• Manages system configuration, version control, testing, and integration of software changes across multiple platforms.
• Maintains the upkeep of process control computers, software licensing agreements, and backups of software files to minimize the downtime of manufacturing equipment.
• Solves quality problems associated with process control systems and develops software to diagnose quality problems.
• Develops and upgrades electrical controls for manufacturing equipment.
• Designs, troubleshoots and assists in repairing of electrical controls.
• Develops and debugs PLC/PC programs for new equipment and upgrades.
• Work with process engineers, production and maintenance to evaluate controls requirements for production line improvements and modifications.
• Manages projects including cost estimation, timing, and scheduling to improve equipment productivity and capability.

Your responsibilities

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required preferably electrical or mechanical.
• Proven experience as an Instrument and Control engineer in an engineering firm, process or power plant, or some combination thereof required.
• Experienced and knowledgeable of various DCS & PLC systems, I/O list required.
• Strong experience in all design aspects inclusive of P&IDs, instrument ISA data sheets, instrument installation details, low voltage wiring, physical conduit routing and cable tray design, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams and schematics including motor control.
• Experience in preparation of purchase specifications for instrumentation and controls.
• Experience with three phase power engineering including development of single line diagrams, selection / specification of electrical equipment.
• Experienced in system operating descriptions.
• Experience with distributed I/O.
• Experience with plant control system DCS network architecture/communication protocols.
• Experience performing vendor data sheets, drawing reviews and identification and implementation of tie-in points.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a larger group is a must
• Solid understanding of computer programming and software development.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests.
• Experience in HMI, PLC, SQL, Vision Systems, and Microsoft office computer and software.
• Can demonstrate a full understanding of electrical, pneumatic, P&ID diagrams, tags and symbols.
• Understands electrical schematics, including motor control, and can perform markups.
• Prior work experience with Rockwell RSLogix/Studio 5000, Siemens Step7 and TIA Portal, Fanuc, and other Ethernet controls systems.
