Your responsibilities

Position Overview:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and performance of engineering activities for a project. The Engineering manager is the connection between project management and the engineering units and represents the technical expertise of the project execution team.

The Engineering manager is responsible for the achievement of the project engineering targets and milestones defined in the overall time schedule as well as having co-responsibility to achieve the budget for equipment, bulks, and man-hours for engineering activities as defined in the contract calculations. The Engineering Manager is responsible for informing Functional and Project Management on status of reaching targets and milestones.

Years of Experience:

  • 10+ years (MS degree may count toward 1 year of work experience)
  • Engineering experience in the Power, Petrochemical, Heavy Industrial, or Chemical industry preferred, addi-tional industries may be considered based on experience gained.
  • EPC experience desired
  • Experience leading groups of people

Education:

  • BS or MS in an appropriate engineering discipline

Certifications:

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred or ability to obtain after hire.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate definition of engineering tasks including the work breakdown structure of activities
  • Assist engineering disciplines with establishing project manpower needs and engineering man-hour budgets and man-hour tracking
  • Co-ordinate the engineering disciplines and ensure proper communication, alignment, and coordination among engineering disciplines such that they function as a team
  • Co-ordinate engineering interfaces, split of work, and battery limits between the specialist fields of engineering involved, local organization, partners, and third parties
  • Ensure together with head of disciplines that lead engineers provide overall technical quality, integrity and adequacy of all design engineering work withing the project budget and schedule
  • Ensure with discipline engineers that codes and standards as per the design basis and contractual requirements are fulfilled.
  • Assist in development of integrated and comprehensive project schedule, resolve all schedule related engineering issues between disciplines, review and analyse schedule deviations and establish recovery plans as required
  • Coordinate the engineering application tools including the data transfers tob e used, identify shortcomings and interface problems
  • Coordinate the technical risk assessment
  • Coordinate the master document list and review matrix
  • Ensure that engineering and vendor documentation is per the contractual requirements
  • Coordinate Procurement support and procurement engineering
  • Progress the engineering schedule for project control
  • Assist in defining procurement packages
  • Assists in the development of subcontract and work package descriptions consistent with contracting plan.
  • Organizes external support activities.
  • Manages the risks, claims and contracts regarding the engineering activities.
  • Reports any deviation/claim to the project management.
  • Responsible for all engineering related communication between the engineering parties involved.
  • Identifies and ensures compliance with regulatory, licensing and state requirements.
  • Prepares engineering execution plan.
  • Responsible for developing Design Basis Document.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and manages meetings between engineering disciplines, client, and outside groups.
  • Assures proper documentation and communication of meetings, agreements, conversations, etc. that affect project.
  • Coordinates client’s engineering comments, approvals and requests with the activities of engineering disciplines.
  • May be responsible for employee performance appraisals, coaching, and developing junior level engineers.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work for a project.
  • Supervises teams of engineers, designers, and administrative staff.
  • Plans, schedules, or coordinates the preparation of documents or completion of activities for multiple major projects, or is responsible for an entire thyssenkrupp project.
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
  • Responsible for the technical development and mentoring of junior level engineers.

Communication Skills Required:

  • Interact positively with the client, customer, official contacts, project teams, equipment suppliers, contractors, and office staff.

Travel:

  • Based in Denver, with significant travel expected to work with other thyssenkrupp offices, vendor facilities, or project sites.
