Your responsibilities

Perform controls set-up activities and wiring installation of product along with basic mechanical assembly and piping installation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compliance with company, legal, and regulatory requirements for Health, Safety, and Environmental topics in order to foster a culture of Health & Safety.
  • Compliance with and enforcement of customer safety policies.
  • Controls Set-Up 
  • Retrieve programming software projects from a network or flash drive, and store it on a PC or Laptop.
  • Configure IP addresses and Local Area Connections in Windows XP.
  • Edit and download I/O device names, IP addresses, etc. to devices.
  • Set dip switches on safety I/O modules as defined in the hardware drawings.
  • Download PLC Hardware Configuration, PLC logic, and HMI configuration.
  • Troubleshoot fieldbus network problems, safety circuits, and safety PLC logic.
  • Add simple jumpers to PLC logic in order to facilitate manually setting outputs. 
  • Modify and monitor I/O and PLC logic on-line with ladder logic editor and Variable table.
  • Archive programming software projects from a PC or Laptop to a network drive or a flash drive.
  • Support mechanical set-up and alignment by working with tool makers using manual motion screens.
  • These duties and requirements do not in any way prevent commissioning engineers from performing these tasks at any time.

Wiring Installation

  • Wire, assemble, and equip terminal boxes and electrical panels in a professional manner (NEC, IEC and other national and international codes) or as required by customer specifications.
  • Verify safe & unsafe electrical environments and situations.
  • Rate bus plugs and fuse sizes in relation to wire gage.
  • Run wires, cables, wire-ways, cat-tracks, etc.
  • Build and mount brackets for electrical components and cat-tracks.
  • Assemble and wire terminal boxes, electrical panels, motors and other electrical equipment.
  • Tag electrical equipment at the machine’s and electrical enclosures.
  • Input/output check and power up of machines and systems.
  • Mark-up hardware drawings when errors are found.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED and ten or more years of electrical wiring experience with assembly, metal removal, welding and/or testing equipment and systems; or combination of related experience and/or training/education.
  • Working knowledge and experience with performing controls set up tasks.
  • Working knowledge of basic mechanical assembly and piping installation. 
  • Understand the requirements and safety aspects related to high voltage feeds and distribution. 
  • Skilled in the use of light machine shop equipment including but not limited to, cut off saw, drill press, and belt sander.

Language Skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Mathematical Skills
  • Able to convert between British standard and metric dimensions and values.
  • Able to apply basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and ratios).
  • Reasoning Ability
  • Able to recognize manufacturing and/or engineer errors and be able to make recommendations for corrections and improvements. 
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
