Your responsibilities

thyssenkrupp Industrial Systems (USA) is currently seeking a Mechanical Designer II in our Greenwood Village, CO office location.

The Mechanical Designer works under some supervision with Lead Engineers and is responsible for ensuring all drafting mechancial designs for bulk materinal handling systems satisfying project requirements and applicable industry standards.  Work performed produces a variety of complex designs and includes the preparation of detail/layout drawings.  Performs work with some supervision guidance and instruction on provided assignments.

Position Overview:

The Mechanical Designer works under some supervision with Lead Engineers and is responsible for ensuring all drafting mechancial designs for bulk materinal handling systems satisfy  project requirements and applicable industry standards.

Work performed produces a variety of complex designs and includes the preparation of detail/layout drawings.

 

  • Thorough understanding and background in drafting and drawing creation, understanding interfaces and revises multiple drawings based on project changes.
  • Independently implements constructability concepts into Design.
  • Independently performs design tasks.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of the design, fabrication, installation and operation of systems and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Provide design support with other project disciplines (as assigned).
  • Reviews fabricator prints for conformance with contract specifications and design.
  • Originates and checks design deliverables of various complexity, utilizing 3D / 2D design tools for the production of drawings.
  • Thorough understanding of industry principles, practices, codes and standards.
  • Prepare drawings, layout and sketches for standard mechanical equipment within the scope of the Mechanical Design Group including but not limited to:
    • Overland Belt conveyors, In plant belt conveyors, Belt feeders
    • Apron feeders, Pipe Conveyors, Screw conveyors
    • Crushers, Sizers, Screens, Feeder Breakers, Belt feeders
    • Truck dumps, Surge Bins, Hoppers
    • Transfer stations and Drive stations
    • Stackers, bucket wheel, ship loaders, ship unloaders, tripper systems
    • Truck and Train Loading/ Unloading
    • Transfer chute(s)
  • Familiar with the standard engineering office computer software including: Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of design work.
  • Effectively manages project scope and project change according to company procedures.
  • Manages design progress and productivity for tasks and implements corrective actions.
  • Able to fulfill field construction support functions in office and field roles.
  • Assists in technical matter to Lead Engineer(s).
  • Provide design support with other project disciplines (as assigned).
  • Reviews fabricator prints for conformance with contract specifications and design.
  • Originates and checks design deliverables of various complexity, utilizing 2D / 3D design tools for the production of drawings.

Basic Qualifications:

Years of Experience:

  • 3+ years
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Associates Degree (AA / AS) in Mechanical/Structural Design or appropriate industry experience.
  • Work experience should emphasize on mechanical/structural design of heavy equipment and familiarity and knowledge in bulk material handling systems.
  • Working experience with the various industries (e.g. Mining, Cement, Mineral processing), additional industries may be considered based on experience gained.
  • Advanced CAD tools and 3D Modeling experience with Autodesk Inventor (preferred) or Solidworks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work experience should emphasize on mechanical/structural design of heavy equipment and familiarity and knowledge in bulk material handling systems.
  • Working experience with the various industries (e.g. Mining, Cement, Mineral processing), additional industries may be considered based on experience gained.
  • Advanced CAD tools and 3D Modeling experience with Inventor or Solidworks.

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates work with other design staff.
  • Understands engineering discipline and drawing production workflow.
  • Understands project scope and recognizes project change
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of design work.

Communication Skills Required:

  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills, essential due to the international coordination required for this work.
  • Independently and effectively communicates relevant project information/requirements to other disciplines.
