Your responsibilities

Summary of Position:

The Director of Freight and Logistics will be responsible for all inbound and outbound transportation activity. The position will lead, develop and implement processes that will lead to the most efficient and productive use of freight services. They will also manage, coordinate and implement programs that will reduce the overall incurred freight cost for the Coil Processing Group (CPG).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Define the strategy for CPG to handle outbound freight to support CPG cost controls and improvement while ensuring our customers receive the delivery service they expect.
  • Negotiate with carriers, on a national or regional level, for the lowest possible rates based on our type of freight (material type and weight). Truckload and LTL rates.
  • Represent CPG as part of tkMNA on all initiatives and to seek avenues to assist other tkMNA Divisions improve their utilization of assets owned by the company while providing cost effective solutions to CPG; C&B and tk Supply Chain Services.
  • Set cost reduction goals and develop and distribute KPI that capture the effect of efforts to achieve those goals.
  • Develop on-time delivery goals and reporting.  Including determining actions to drive process improvement.
  • Work with internal leaders to define distribution performance objectives and metrics.
  • Provide oversight on the CPG dedicated trucks and where they are located.  This would include local supervision and relevant KPI supporting management and utilization of these assets.
  • Responsibility for selection and use of third party warehouses used to support local business.  This would involve finding the best partner in a given region, negotiating favorable terms and costs and managing to align costs and performance to company defined rates or levels.
  • Monitor carrier performance on an ongoing basis
  • Point of contact for freight related issues for CPG

Your profile

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics or business related field
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive Logistics experience
  • Strong negotiating, decision making and influence skills
  • Firm understanding of all UCC and interstate commerce regulations as it relates to trucking
  • Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Office,
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems, warehouse management systems, and transportation management systems.
  • Thorough working knowledge of logistics, warehousing, inventory control systems and principles, shipping, and receiving.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Hands on, business minded individual with a strong leadership skill set along with very strong negotiating skills
